CORRECTION OF FRONTAL BOSSING DUE TO HYPERPNEUMATIZATION OF FRONTAL SINUS

Abstract
|
|
|
Bony sculpturing of face is rapidly becoming a part of cosmetic surgery and is a natural spinoff of craniofacial and maxillofacial surgery.
Hyperpneumatization of frontal sinus has an atavistic condition, producing a gorilla type, characterized by frontal bossing and supraorbital protruding.
In case 1, frontal sinus must be opened through a sinus osteotomy and then entire anterior sinus wall set back, and adjacent supraorbital and frontal bossing can be corrected by contouring or reshaping with a bur. In case 2, frontal and supraorbital bossing can be corrected by contouring of protruding bone and then augmenting the concavity above frontal bossing with autogenous cranial bone unlay graft.
The results were fairly satisfactory judging from cosmetic viewpoint.
